It has been an amazing year! Christina has reached the after-plan phase of the model continues to be in relationship with her table team after years of extreme hardship and very difficult setbacks.

Her early life was filled with challenges and broken family relationships. Even so she worked hard in school and studied to become a Registered Nurse. After several years in a successful career caring for seniors and others who needed help, Christina experienced a painful foot injury and then found herself addicted to prescribed opioids. Her addiction triggered a chaotic episode that landed her in jail. She could never have imagined being imprisoned. After her release she had to endure difficult living situations with no driver’s license and lost custody of her children. She worked hard as a server just to survive.

With focused determination to improve her life Christina completed the The Bridges Out of Poverty Getting Ahead Program. She was then recommended for and accepted into Community Connected’s Open Table model. Through Christina’s strong will to make positive change, the support of the team and the sharing of relational resources new and healthier living arrangements have been made. She now has a full-time job caring for an elderly person in the home where she lives. She has received her driver’s license back, is on the path of gaining custody of her son and returning to her career in helping others. The social, spiritual and emotional support has helped Christina find the road back to a better life. The team has learned a great deal from Christina and how powerful relationships are a positive force for change.
